Reviews for Gretsch G5125/5129 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar
Feature: The Bigsby is very nice. The tremelo bar on the Fenders I've owned has always ended up off the guitar and on the shelf. This one I actually use.
Quality: I say 8, only because 9, and 10 are ideals that shouldn't be applied to real guitars, or at least one to ones that cost under a thousand dollars. The more I play this instrument the more I like it. Mine was made in Korea. I have heard rumours that they are now made in China and the quality has degraded. I have not played a Sino-factured Electromatic, but this DOES seem true of the Elliot Easton line, which I have compared, so maybe the case with the Electromatics as well.
Value: For a $700-850 guitar seems well put together. The tone is lovely.
Sound: It took me awhile to fall in love with the Gretsch voice, but eventually I realized that a Gibson (owned a vintage SG for 15 years) is plain muddy in comparison. Of course this all a matter of taste. Definitely not a matter of quality, either in tone or in workmanship.
